  • Sikkim’s CM welcomes Union Minister (MoS) Ashwini Choubey on International Day of Yoga

    New Delhi : Under the banner of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav along with the rest of the country and the world, the State of Sikkim also celebrated the International Day of Yoga with much enthusiasm and drive at the premises of Enchey Monastery, Gangtok.

    Organized by Sikkim State AYUSH and the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Governor of Sikkim Ganga Prasad, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, and Minister of State for Consumer Affairs food and public distribution and Environment, forest and climate change, Government of India, Ashwini Kr. Choubey participated in the event.

    There was a live telecast from Mysore Palace Grounds on the occasion of International Day of Yoga 2022 which was shared with the august gathering at Enchey Monastery. Through this virtual platform, Prime Minister Narendra Modi explained the benefits of Yoga and encouraged all to practice it.

    Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang in his address welcomed the Union Minister Mos, Ashwini Kr. Choubey and expressed his thankfulness to the Prime Minister of India for the valuable initiative undertaken to make the world realize the importance of Yoga and celebrate International Yoga Day globally.

    He mentioned that Sikkim offers the perfect natural setting for practicing Yoga and has the potential to become the center for Yoga practitioners and enthusiasts. The Chief Minister also mentioned that the State Government has included Yoga in the curriculum of the schools to improve attention and memory and alleviate academic stress.

    Union Minister Ashwini Kr. Choubey in his address highlighted how yoga brings peace not just to people but to society at large. The Union Minister also donated a total number of 100 thermos flasks for the Monks of Enchey Monastery as a token of love.

    Later, he paid a courtesy visit at the official residence of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang. They discussed several topics related to the environment, forests, and climate change, where the Union MoS appreciated the efforts made by the state government towards the preservation of the environment and assured of every possible assistance from his Ministries.
