  • Mumbai: Sir Partha Dasgupta of India was honoured with the US$300K Zayed International Prize for Environment, the world’s most valuable award for the environment, at a glittering function at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

    Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Zayed International Prize for the Environment, acknowledges outstanding contributions to the field of environment protection and conservation.

    Sir Dasgupta, who was presented with the award by Sheikh Mohammed, was recognised for his Scientific and Technological Achievements in the Environment. Sir Dasgupta is the Frank Ramsey Professor of Economics at Cambridge University in the United Kingdom and is considered one of the most outstanding environmental economists of his generation. Sir Dasgupta has been involved in pioneering initiatives that linked sustainability with economic development well before ‘green development’ became fashionable.
