    Kokrajhar: Police have arrested six persons in connection with the witch-hunting incident in Kokrajhar where five member of a family in remote village in Kokrajhar district were outcast and ordered to leave the village by 15 August next on the suspected of practicing black magic.

    Officer in-charge of Kokrajhar police station J Barman said six persons have been arrested and a case Kokrajhar PS case No. 382/2019 u/s 4(1)(II)/7/9(II)/10/11 has been registered under the Assam Witch Hunting (Prohibition, Prevention and Protection Act) 2015.

    The arrested persons were identified as village goanbura Sameswar Rabha (60), VDP secretary Pundor Rabha (65), Kharam Rabha (56), Nitai Rabha (48), Terang alias Tarun Rabha (42) and Rangar Rabha (30).

    It is to be noted that on Thursday (8 August) at Jornagra Part-1 village under Kokrajhar police station five member of a family including Badrewar Rabha(55), his wife Puleswari Rabha, son Ajit, daughter-in-law and 2 years old grandson were outcast and ordered to leave the village by August 15. The villagers held a meeting in the village where a resolution was adopted to outcast the family accusing them of practicing black magic and leave the village by August 15. The villagers also forced the family to sign a paper accepting their crime.

    Getting information about the case, the police visited the village and started investigation into the matter and arrested 6 six in this connection.
