    Jorhat : Extension Education Institute for North Eastern Region (EEI-NE) at AAU Jorhat kicked off a month long Skill Development Training program on floriculture which was inaugurated by Dr. Jayanta Deka, the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture in presence of Dr. Pradip Neog, director of Extension Education Institute-North Eastern Region, government of India, Dr Madhumita Choudhury Talukdar, head of department-Horticulture and Dr. Sajib Baruah, program coordinator among rural participating youth coming from all throughout the region of North East here today.

    As floriculture cultivation and its output going up with latest technology with green house, plastic house for farming and for the youths of North eastern Region and to fullfil Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream to skill up the rural youths from the region is an strict initiative by the EEI-NE as floriculture business is growing up. During earlier days flowers were used only for religious purposes but coming days proves how much flowers of all varieties is needed and to be used for all purposes now and then, said Dr. Jayanta Deka, the Dean of Faculty of Agriculture who attended as the chief guest on the occasion here today.

    A total of 200 rural youths both boys and girls taking part in the month long training program on floriculture right from planting, followed by quality seed of flowers on its availability from season to season and also how to avail financial assistance from financial institutions and under central or state government schemes were discussed during the opening session on floriculture, said Dr. Sajib Baruah, the program co-coordinator for the month long program.

    Dr. (Ms) Madhumita Talukdar, head of the Horticulture department differentiated between the flowers and discussed about the rate variation of various flowers that last from season to season which the trainees will be given more inputs to do cultivation in the form of various artificial , scientific houses through which all kinds of floricultural activities could be carried on all through out the year for self-entrepreneurship and employment.

    Other those who spoke on the occasion were Dr. Pradip Neog, the director of EEI-NE Region during the inaugural session of the month long program.
