Social-Democratic leader Almazbek Atambayev elected as Kyrgyzstan Prime Minister in Friday’s Jogorku Kenesh.

After hours long discussions and voting, 97 parliament members approved the government program, 92 members approve the government institution structure, and 88 voters agreed the nomination of main government leaders, including Atambayev’s post as prime minister.

In early Friday, Ata Zhurt leader Akhmatbek Keldibekov was elected as the speaker of the parliament at the Jogorku Kenesh.

After the meeting, Kyrgyzstan interim government President Roza Otunbayeva congratulated Keldibekov and Atambayev for their election victory.

“Kyrgyzstan has stepped onto a new development road,” said Otunbayeva. “After a long waiting, we have chosen our speaker of parliament and prime minister.”

She said, “We don’t have enough time, and should start working as soon as possible, a lot of tasks need to be solved.”

According to Kyrgyzstan’s constitution, only after the president’s signing of the election result, the government will be finally formed.
