Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has said that newly constructed Cancer Hospital in Guwahati will be able to bring a ray of hope to all those people who cannot afford to go outside the state for treatment.
Mr Sonowal and Union Health Minister JP Nadda yesterday inaugurated the Cancer Hospital attached to the Gauhati Medical College and also electronically unveiled the AMRIT Pharmacies in the five Medical Colleges of the state.
Mr.Nadda said that the Cancer Hospital will be accorded the status of a State Cancer Institute and the Centre provide 120 crores rupees to the hospital which will be in addition to 90 crore rupees already earmarked for the institute.
He also announced that free dialysis facility will be provided in all district hospitals of the state to below poverty line families and all existing Medical Colleges in the state will be upgraded to Super Speciality Hospitals.
Saying that setting up of the AIIMS in Guwahati will be a huge fillip to the healthcare scenario of the state as well as the region, Mr Nadda said that 1000 crore rupees has already been earmarked for the AIIMS.
