
New Delhi: Acclaimed filmmaker, author, and sound innovator Dr. (Hon) Seshu KMR has been conferred with an Honorary Doctorate in Interdisciplinary Media and Sonic Studies by the University of Cuneo, Italy. The recognition was presented at the prestigious Indian Intellectual Conclave 2025, held at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
The event brought together international dignitaries including officials from the Consulates of Jamaica, Australia, and Russia, alongside academic leaders from Italy and India.
Seshu KMR, known for his revolutionary work in Indian cinema and his innovation of the Flowsound system, was honoured not just for his contributions to media and technology but also for his groundbreaking literary work.
His book Playback: A Century of Telugu Cinema Soundtrack—the first to comprehensively document the sonic history of Telugu cinema—was highlighted as a cultural milestone.

“Sound is not just vibration; it is memory, culture, and emotion woven into time,”
said Dr. KMR in his acceptance address.
“This recognition reaffirms the power of storytelling through sound.”
The doctorate also acknowledges his pioneering efforts in bio-acoustic call sequences for wildlife deterrence in Indian agriculture, a unique application of sonic design in real-world environmental challenges.
This is Dr. Seshu KMR’s second honorary doctorate, the first being in Sonic Psychology, making him a rare achiever in the global creative landscape.
With a career spanning over two decades in film direction, music composition, sound design, and AI-driven media innovation, Seshu KMR continues to inspire emerging creators across disciplines.
From cinema to sound farming, from folklore to futuristic audio-tech, his journey embodies a confluence of culture, science, and spirit.
