  • ROCKLAND, MA: In a special effort to support its nearly 85 nonprofit organization members, the South Shore Chamber of Commerce has created a social campaign that is expected to take off this Leap Year.

The Leap of Kindness Day project is an initiative created by chambers of commerce across the country.  The South Shore Chamber, always staying on top of best practices in its industry and ways to benefit its own 1200 + members, is asking its 4600 + Facebook Followers to try a #LeapofKindness by answering “What will you do with your extra day this year? Try a #LeapofKindness.”

The call to action is twofold.  We are asking nonprofit organization members to post their needs so that regional communities and the Chamber’s social followers can help meet those needs.  Needed items so far include everything from jams and jelly and hygiene products for local food pantries to “liking” social media to stay informed. The social media community can then review the requests and choose how or what to support.

Julie Williams, Director of Membership at the Chamber explained, “The goal is to have the Kindness Campaign spread across the South Shore, including the Chamber’s Followers and Facebook Followers of individual member nonprofits, so together we can make an impact, not just in one day but hopefully beyond.”

“This is a fabulous initiative and a creative way to engage current and hopefully discover new supporters,” said Laurie Maranian, Chair of the Non-Profit Organization (NPO) Group of the South Shore Chamber, an industry group within the Chamber with a mission to collaborate, advocate for shared interests and promote the visibility of nonprofits.  “We’re so grateful to the Chamber for taking the lead and leveraging their social presence to help us foster connections and tell our stories.”
