SPL Infrastructure completed South India’s first twin All Steel Flyover

Chennai : SPL Infrastructure, one of the leading EPC Contractors in the field of Civil Engineering today announced the successful completion of Tamil Nadu’s first twin steel flyover connecting Kanyakumari and Thiruvananthapuram. With an aim to ease out traffic congestion on NH-47, SPL Infrastructure undertook the Rs. 314.02 crore worth project and completed the same in a record time of 20 months. The twin flyovers were inaugurated and open to traffic by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi in an event last week.

Designed and constructed by Indian Engineers with technical assistance and guidance from Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai the project commenced in the month of Feb 2017 and aimed to address the traffic bottle neck at Parvathipuram, covering a distance of 1.409 KMs and Marthandam, covering a distance of 2.87 KMs. These flyovers besides easing out traffic congestion will also help cut down the travel time between Nagercoil City and Thiruvananthapuram by about 1 hour.

“We are delighted to have partnered with the Ministry of Road Transports and Highways to construct Tamil Nadu’s first twin steel flyover. Besides clearing out the traffic congestion on one of the busiest highways, the flyovers will also help cut down the travel time significantly” said, Mr. SP Lakshmanan, Chairman of M/s SPL Infrastructure, Pvt Ltd. Adding to this, he said, “A true testimony to Make in India initiative, the flyovers have been constructed with utmost precision by using pre-fabricated structural steel members and have employed Robotic Welding to achieve the desired quality along with eliminating strenuous workload at site. Also, the structural steel members are specially coated with multiple layers of special coating materials to take care of corrosion for its entire life span.”

This first of its kind steel flyover has been designed and constructed with 300 skilled labours, a team of 100 technocrats in a record time of 20 months. These steel flyover arethe first to use E 410, an ultra-tensile steel and saves about 20 % of weight when compared to normal steel thus paving the way for how in future flyovers are to be built in congested urban environment.
