Chennai : Sri City, South India’s largest Integrated Business City consisting of a Special Economic Zone, Domestic Tariff Zone and Free Trade Warehousing Zone, today, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Medical Research Foundation (Sankara Nethralaya) to establish an Eye Care Hospital and Research Facility inside Sri City. The new eye care hospital is expected to benefit the people of the region and the employees of the industries inside Sri City.
Sri City Sankara Nethralaya as it would be called will commence its services in the next three months by having a 20 bed hospital and an operation theatre to perform eye surgeries. Sri City Sankara Nethralaya will build a full-fledged specialty eye care hospital spread over 10 acres within the next three years.
“We are happy to be associated with Sri City today. We intend to set up the eye care hospital and ensure quality and affordable eye care services to the poor and needy are provided. As the full-fledged eye care hospital is expected to be completed in a period of 3 years, any complicated surgeries that require post-surgery backup can be offered by Sankara Nethralaya Chennai till then,” said Dr. S.S. Badrinath, Chairman Emeritus, Sankara Nethralaya.
Every year, over 2000 patients come to Sankara Nethralaya for cataract surgeries from Chittoor District and over 500 for complicated surgeries. Likewise, from Nellore over 500 cataract surgeries and 100 complicated cases prefer Sankara Nethralaya.
With the launch of the eye care hospital in Sri City, the local people who seek treatment will not be required to travel till Chennai and can opt for quality care near their doorstep. Furthermore, quick post-surgery treatment and minimal traveling will ensure the local people who seek treatment reduce the risk of infections.
“The need for an eye care hospital in this region was lacking and with the entry of Sankara Nethralaya this vacuum has been filled. Thousands who travel to Chennai, Coimbatore or Pondicherry for their eye care need will be benefitted henceforth. We thank Dr. S. S. Badrinath, the key architect behind Sankara Nethralaya to make this happen,” said Ravindra Sannareddy, MD, Sri City.
