  • Srinagar-Leh NH thrown open for traffic

    Published on April 29, 2019

The over 400-kilometre long Srinagar-Leh National Highway, connecting the Kashmir Valley with the Ladakh region, has been thrown open for traffic after remaining closed for over four months due to heavy snowfall. General Officer Commanding of 15 Corps Lt Gen KJS Dhillon along with other officials reopened the highway at a ceremony at Zero-Point in Zojila by flagging off a convoy.

The strategic road was closed for traffic in mid-December due to a heavy accumulation of snow from Gagangir in Ganderbal district to Drass in Kargil district.
Zojila Pass, at a height of 11,516 feet above sea level, connects the Kashmir Valley with the Indus valley desert through the Srinagar-Leh road.
