  • States, UTs lift 6.39 lakh tonnes of food grains: Govt

    Government today said that states and Union Territories have lifted six lakh 39 thousand tonnes of food grains and distributed to migrant labourers under the Atma Nirbhar Bharat Package.

    Briefing media through Video Conference, Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said, States and UTs have distributed over two lakh 32 thousand tonnes of food grains to the beneficiaries in May and June.

    Under Atma Nirbhar Bharat Package, 5 Kilograms of free food grains per person and one Kilogram of free gram per family has been distributed to migrant labourers and needy families, who are not covered under NFSA or State scheme PDS cards.

    Mr Paswan said, now States and UTs can complete distribution of balance of allocated free food grains and gram by 31st August this year.

    The Minister said, a total of over 116 lakh tonnes of food grains has been lifted by the States and UTs under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana-1.

    Keeping in view of the ongoing crisis and need for the continuous support to the poor and needy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had extended the scheme for next five months, till November this year.

    He said, a total of around 201 lakh tonnes of food grains have been allocated for Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana -2 to States and UTs for the 5 months period July to November 2020.
