Sterlite Copper places safety check points to trace trucks carrying copper anodes

Tuticorin : Sterlite Copper has commenced operation of safety check pointsoffices over a stretch of 750 km between Namakkalin TamilnaduandJhalki in the Bijapur district of Karnataka, to ensure safety of the trucks that pass through this area carrying copper anodes to Silvassa and finished products to Indore and Jaipur.

In a function held recently at Rasipuram, Mr.K.Nallathambi, President, Tamil Nadu State Lorry Owners’ Association inaugurated the first safety point at Rasipuram in the presence of Mr.P.P.Markhs, Head – Logistics, Sterlite Copper. The aim of the initiative is to strengthen the tracking and safety system of each vehicle which passes the hijack prone stretch of 750 km.

“Eight safety points have been placed between Namakkal and Jhalki which covers 750 kms. A team will be present at all the safety points on a 24*7 basis to check whether the vehicles carrying the anodes report at all the safety points,” Mr.P.P.Markhs said. He also added that if any problem arises between two check points, the team present in the check points will move towards each other to check the whereabouts of the vehicle. The initiative was taken by Sterlite in addition to placing of GPS devices, in order to reduce the response time, in case of any untoward incidents in this stretch.

Speaking at the function, Mr.K.Nallathambi thanked Sterlite for showing care towards the truck owners and drivers. He also added that he hoped the safety points would prevent happening of such untoward incidents in future.

Mr.Subburaj, President, Thoothukudi City Lorry Booking Agents Association and Mr.Harsh Gandhi, Chartered Logistics Limited were also present during the event.
