Philanthropist and social activist Ishwar Choudhary while addressing civil society groups and government authorities on Wednesday laid emphasis on putting an end to the practice of child labour from Rajasthan.
The Problem of Child Labour in Rajasthan
As per Choudhary, child labour in Jalor (limestone and stone quarry), Jaipur (gem polishing), Bikaner (carpetweaving), Ajmer (tourism), Dhaulpur (marble), Banswara (cane and bamboo works, and stone quarry), and Bhilwara (garment), is mainly due to high industrial activities and the resultant demand for cheap labour. Whereas the incidence of child labour in Banswara, Chittor, Dungarpur, and Udaipur is due to the concentration of impoverished tribal population languishing under poverty conditions.
Laws alone can’t control this menace Choudhary concluded by stating that laws alone aren’t sufficient to control this menace. He urged the non-governmental organizations and civil society groups to actively participate in the process of transformation for a better Rajasthan.–
