Storm Swept Lower & Middle Assam,Trail Of Destruction Maximum damage from Nagaon

Guwahati : An early morning storm coupled with 100 km per hour speedy gale has left a trail of destruction in lower and central Assam as details are collected. The tree fell in the Silghat-Nagaon section of the NF railway near Salna disrupting the train service. The work is going on for early restoration as sketchy details emerging from rural Assam suggest that maximum damage has come from the Nagaon district so far. Video Player 00:00 00:10 The gale started at 0300 hours and turned to a storm by 0330 damaging thousands of houses and uprooted the trees. The loss of life and injuries are yet to emerge.

In Guwahati city, almost all the Bihu pandals were completely damaged as the cultural evening program was about to wind up when the organizers hurriedly closed it. The Chandmari Bihutoli was completely damaged and it will need serious repairing today for the final day of the cultural function. Here is a picture, which shows nothing wrong at a first glance. But if you look closely you will find dozens of hoardings blown away by the storm.A storm, followed by heavy rains, left several Bihu pandals, houses damaged, dozens of hoardings blown away and trees, along with electric poles uprooted in various parts of the State on Wednesday morning. However no casualty was reported so far.The Chandmari, Maligaon as well as Latasil bihu pandals in Guwahati were completely damaged. Several big trees were uprooted in Dighalipukhuri and in Senikuthi area. A large number of birds’ nests were also seen damaged. On the other hand, the storm and rains has also damaged several houses in other parts of the State including Tihu, Kaliabor, Kampur, Golaghat, Nagaon, North Guwahati and other places. In Nagaon three people sustained injuries following the storm.
