Before that in March 2014, a17-year-old girl was gang-raped and killed on the bank of the Makra in Chirang district. The girl, a first year higher secondary student of Amguri Higher Secondary School, had gone fishing in the Makra along with another girl from her village, under Amguri police station in Bijni subdivision, when they were chased by about six to seven youths. The goons caught one of the girls and allegedly gang-raped her before slitting her throat. The girl died on the spot while her friend managed to escape and inform the villagers.
