Gurugram : Summer Fields School today organised a vocational training workshop to upgrade the skills of DLF support staff and community members with a 4-month basic computer language course. The session also aimed to familiarise participants with online tools to communicate, connect, exchange technology, and evaluate material for accuracy, credibility, and safety. The session also aimed to assist them to specialise in MS Office, MS Word, E-Mail, and internet use. The trainees also participated in regular soft skills development seminars to strengthen their verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Additionally, English grammar lessons were also conducted to help them master the four foundational skills of the English language, i.e. reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

Vocational training significantly contributes to the empowerment of youth, as well as their autonomy and economic stability. With this objective in mind, Summer Fields School had set up its first vocational training centre in 2021.

The school began the training programme with forty participants in two groups for two hours in October of last year. The course concluded with an exam conducted by Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS), a Government of India Organization under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship.

An award ceremony for the participants was held on the 13th of May and was graced by Dr. Ameeta Mulla Wattal, Chairperson and Executive Director of Education, Innovations and Training, DLF Schools and Scholarship, along with Colonel Arun Sindhwani, Chief of Security (SVP), DLF. Each participant received two certificates— one from Summer Fields School for completion of the course and one from JSS, based on their performance.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Wattal stressed on the role of DLF schools in taking meaningful action for the betterment of the world. She also cited a quote by Gandhiji which always inspires and motivates her: “A thousand candles can be lit from one flame, and the life of the candle will not be shortened.”

In a similar vein, Jasmeet  Chandok, Coordinator of Community Outreach, Summer Fields School, said, “We are pleased at the successful completion of the first of many vocational skill courses to be offered by Summer Fields School. The trainees enjoyed their return to school, especially those who may not have had the opportunity to complete their education previously. We are confident that the course will not only act as an agent of change for them but will add positive value to their lives as well.”

“Vocational education programs have made a lot of difference in the lives of so many young people. We, at Summer Fields School, take pride in initiating this initiative that will help the youth today to enhance not only their technical skills but also their communication skills. These opportunities would help them utilize their talents and grow in their respective fields,” said Soumya Taneja, Head-Junior school at Summer Fields School.
