  • Sussanne Roshan, Seema Khan and Maheep Kapoor launch BANDRA 190 – a luxury concept store

    Published on December 5, 2013

Three fashion and style divas have joined their creative and business minds to give Bandra its first luxury concept retail boutique called Bandra suzanne roshan-4190. Founder members Sussanne Roshan, Seema Khan and Maheep Kapoor unveil a plush shopping experience for the new-age buyer. Located at the tony Turner Road, Bandra 190 is a multi-brand luxury retail store that stands apart from the rest by virtue of its eclectic and edgy experience.

    AN EXPERIENCE OF SHABBY CHIC

Styled to feel like New York City’s SoHo district, famous for its trendy boutiques and art galleries, Bandra 190 too has its very own distinct character that will leave an impression in the minds and hearts of all who visit. Launched this December, with interiors designed by Sussanne Roshan, the six-storey luxury boutique houses some of the biggest brands in the Indian and international fashion and design industry.

In Sussanne Roshan’s words, “Bandra 190 is a one-stop shop where a great variety can be found and one will experience a certain novelty that one sees in new-age buying. It’s reflective of the shabby chic that one sees in today’s lifestyles. The experience is almost that of a jewel box, which you can explore and experience.” Sussanne’s design for the store incorporates both masculine and feminine elements as both men and women will equally frequent the store.

THREE WOMEN AND A CONCEPT STORE

In this venture, supported by Shravan Satyani of Satyani Fine Jewels, the three talented women – Seema Khan, Sussanne Roshan and Maheep Kapoor  – have beautifully complemented each others’ aesthetic sensibilities and astute business acumen. They are, as Sussanne rightly says, “People on the same page, going in the same direction.” With each having several years of experience and a pulse firmly on the luxury and design space, these creative minds promise to create a paradigm shift in the luxury retail space, giving the consumer a special experience of buying brands. From clothes to shoes to jewellery and home products, Bandra 190 has everything one looks for, and all under one roof!

For Seema Khan, Bandra 190 provides, “a beautiful space to walk through where you will get amazing merchandise.” While Maheep Kapoor believes that Bandra 190, “makes it convenient for women to come and see all our work together in one place and we all benefit from each other.”

Each store and level has its own unique personality and experience. Sussanne, the chief creative mind behind the store’s interiors says, “Every little thing was designed to be very charming and attractive. Since one normally sees this concept in much bigger spaces, like malls, we had to set this apart by making it a cozy and intimate experience. We’ve almost designed it like an “atelier”, a workshop shop where one will learn more about the product while one’s shopping.” The trio have jointly put their artistic minds together and discussed everything from the look to the colour scheme and other minute details of the multi-levelled store. As the concept expands and grows, the three founder members will also jointly decide the brands to be added and its possible branches in other cities.

MANY LIFESTYLE BRANDS UNDER ONE ROOF

SeemaCurrently at Bandra 190, the ground floor has classic jewellery pieces by Maheep Kapoor for Satyani Fine Jewels, the first and second floor houses The Charcoal Project by Sussanne Roshan with fine gifting items and home interior pieces, the third floor is stocked with blingy elegant Indian, bridal and western wear by Seema Khan, while the fourth has the famous French shoe brand Christian Louboutin and the fifth and sixth floors display several fashion brands for men and women like Alexander McQueen, Alice + Olivia, Chloe, DVF, Dolce & Gabbana, Herve Leger, Victoria Beckham and Stella McCartney in the multi-brand luxury store created by Charu and Priya Sachdev called Kitsch.

As Shravan Satyani of Satyani Jewels says, “These are all serious brands who have come together in a non-competitive manner; they all have their distinct identities. At Bandra 190, we will essentially aim at creating a certain way of luxury shopping, a special way, whereby buying a luxury brand becomes an experience.”

    THE BRANDS YOU WILL FIND

    The Charcoal Project

Started by Sussanne Roshan, a student of conceptual design, this store was started first in Andheri in response to her vision of “igniting life into a space and enhancing it to the best of its ability.” At Bandra 190, The Charcoal Project is divided into two levels and each level replicates the mother store but in a more minute and detailed format. It is essentially a store for gifting, items of everyday use, furniture and fabrics, “all put in there with a thought”. Sussanne has also created a miniature apartment on one level, done up at a price, to give a glimpse of the interiors done by the store. The Charcoal Project also includes home brands from Delhi like a lighting brand called Clove lights, luxury trunks from Nappa Dori, furniture and fabrics from international designer Andrew Martin, Sussanne Roshan’s prêt collection and the occasional accent piece from Gauri Khan. To quote Sussanne, “It is a fusion of the world of interiors that I do. It’s a doll house version of what I’m doing in Andheri.”

Maheep Kapoor For Satyani Fine Jewels

Maheep Kapoor, has been designing for Satyani Fine Jewels for the last two years. For Bandra 190, she has created a more festive collection. Heavy bridal and other classic designs will continue to rule. In her own words, “Jewellery should be classic and traditional. It should go on for generations and become an heirloom piece.”

    Seema Khan

Seema Khan’s label at Bandra 190 are a mix of Indian prêt, bridal and western wear. Her designs have an element of bling with plenty of sequins. Her creations are a reflection of what she herself likes to wear:  “Not over the top, but something that can be removed even after a decade and still look good.” Her boutique store at Bandra 190 will showcase one-off pieces that will not get repeated. She will also personalise outfits and design complete wardrobes for clients, by appointment at the store.

    Kitsch

Founded by sisters Charu and Priya Sachdev, Kitsch is home to some of the most iconic names in contemporary fashion brought together under one roof. At Bandra 190, it will house the same brands as its flagship store in Kala Ghoda, namely, Alexander McQueen, Alice + Olivia, Chloe, DVF, Dolce & Gabbana, Dsquared, Herve Leger, Halston Heritage, Jason Wu, Saint Laurent Paris, Rag & Bone, Rachel Roy, Victoria Beckham, Saint Laurent Paris and Stella McCartney.

Nestled within the hangers, stocked with the current season’s must haves, is a book-shop, café and restaurant. It also offers benefits like a personal shopper, stylist and concierge service. As Charu Sachdev states, “Customers are evolving. They want the same luxury experience as they get abroad. This is what we strive for at Kitsch – to blur boundaries and bring to India a luxury shopping experience at par with the rest of the world.”

    Christian Louboutin

Christian Louboutin is a French footwear designer whose footwear has incorporated shiny, red-lacquered soles that have become his signature. Louboutin helped bring stilettos back into fashion in the 1990s and 2000s, designing dozens of styles with heel heights of 4.72 inches and higher. The designer’s professed goal has been to “make a woman look sexy, beautiful, to make her legs look as long as [he] can.” (Source: Wikipedia) His creations now also include flat shoes, bags and wallets. At Bandra 190, one will find the latest collections by the brand.
