New Delhi — CONTRIBUTING to the cause of popularising and promoting Indian classical art forms, SWAR Saraswati Foundation in association with Powergrid Corporation and Sanskriti Gram organised a delightful inaugural evening of ‘SWAR Arpan Health Concert Series’- on Thursday, April 7, 2011 on the occasion of World Health day. Held at the Chinmaya Center, Lodhi Road, New Delhi, the concert showcased magical performances by Pt. Rajeev Janardan, Dr. Kamala Shankar, Shri. G S Rajan and Pt. Krishna Mohan Mishra.
This evening staged a presentation and discussion on the causes and prevention of cerebral strokes, which are now becoming common place in every household. The guest speaker on the subject was Dr. Mohammad Qasim a renowned and senior practitioner of Homeopathy in Delhi. The audiences were very appreciative of this unique combination of a serious thought followed by soul rendering performances.
Accompanied by Pt. Sudhir Pandey on the tabla the jugalbandi of Shankar Guitar by Dr. Kamala Shankar and Sitar by Pt. Rajeev Janardan mesmerised the listeners with their rendition of Raag Kalavati.
The evening witnessed the great talent of the carnatic flute maestro Shri. G.S. Rajan. He was accompanied on mridangam by Shri. Padmanabhan and on tanpura by Master Shyam Rajan.
Pt. Krishna Mohan Mishra, of Lakhnow gharana brought the audiences to their feet with his energetic and spell binding performance.
The evening concluded with a stellar performance by Abhyas Kathak Group, Ms. Rachna Sinha, Ms. Pankhuri Srivastava, Ms. Sukriti Sharma, Ms. Minu Garu, Ms. Nilakshi Tiwari & Ms. Shalini Tiwari who put the entire audience in a spiritual trance with their vibrant performance on a Sufi Kalam.
SWAR Saraswati Foundation also falicitated Shri. Ravindra Mishra, a senior journalist and art critic this evening for his immense contribution to the classical art-forms and selfless service of many decades to the fraternity. “It’s not only important to recognise, reward and preserve the artists but also the silent contributors behind the scene who work as hard as the artists in understanding the finer nuances of art forms and bringing them closer to the public at large, our journalists and critics. We have to acknowledge their contribution and this is a small first step in that direction by us.”, said Ms. Shrinka Agrawal, Founder Director of SWAR Saraswati Foundation.
“SWAR Arpan Health Concert Series” is organised with the sole purpose of bringing this generation closer to themselves, not only by talking about healthy living physically, but also embracing the tacit nuances of our culture which add to the peace and tranquillity of our lives which are otherwise very noisy and stressful. The by product of an entire generation appreciating our Indian classical music and dance our biggest treasures will also contribute in bringing the world closer to the heritage of India’s classical art forms. The performance succeeded in doing just that as a youngsters like Shiven Kumar(20), Engineering Student and Ritika Gupta(17) 12th Std. Student, sat through their first classical concert, coming out promising themselves and the organisers that they would want to and love to attend the next concerts.
Eminent guests included Padma Shri Surendra Singh, Vasvati Mishra, Smt. Meena Om, Shri. B N Singh, Shri. Ganesh Shankar Pandey and Shri. K L Sharma were beside other eminent dancers were also seen in the audiences.
