  • Tackling illicit trade: FICCI launches anti smuggling and counterfeit committee

    An anti smuggling and counterfeit committee was launched by FICCI to tackle the illicit trade. The committee is empowered to take multi-pronged action against the rogue elements encouraging piracy and smuggling of the established brands in the country. Launching the committee’s website, Vanaja Sarna, Director of Revenue Intelligence Department said that the Pharmaceutical, Information Technology and Automobile industry of the country has been most adversly affected by the piracy and smuggling. She added that the newly formed committee will suggest the required changes in price differentials, tax matters and enforce stricter laws to counter the menance. Dr. Amit Mitra Secretary General of FICCI, present on the occassion said that the government should calibrate the economic policy to make the industry more competitive on quality and quantity parameters.
