    To present a quintessential South Indian experience during their stay at the Taj Coromandel, Majesty Emperor and Her Imperial Majesty Empress savoured a delectable range of South Indian delicacies from the award-winning and iconic restaurant Southern Spice. On the evening of their departure, the royal couple sampled the Mahavirundhu experience, served in a gold-plated thali. The meal included Kozhi Malli Peralan along with appams, Denji Rawa Fry, Hyderabadi Haleem and Sheermal. Known for its unparalleled and authentic cuisine, the restaurant translated the entire menu to Japanese to help the Majesty Emperor and Her Imperial Majesty Empress familiarize with the special meal experiences. The dignitaries were so pleased with the appams that they requested Executive Chef, Alok Anand to share the recipe with them.

    At the lunch meeting at the Raj Bhavan earlier in the day, Taj Coromandel catered a wide spread banquet including Semiya Payasam. Majesty Majesty Emperor and Her Imperial Majesty Empress at Taj Coromandel, ChennaiEmperor Akihito was impressed with the ever-green South Indian dessert and requested for the recipe. At a meeting at the hotel with the city’s dignitaries, the guests were served scrumptious South Indian snacks including seedai, thathai, murukku, chikki and Mysore Pak. Majesty Emperor was smitten by the soft and melting Mysore Pak and enquired about the recipe for this dessert as well.

    Departure Experience

    The hotel accorded a resplendent departure experience for the royal couple who left the city at 11pm last night. The newly renovated lobby was lit with diyas and candles and also decorated with a traditional pookalam that read ‘Sayonara’ and ‘Goodbye’. The entire team, along with N Prakash, General Manager – Taj Coromandel, was present at the lobby to bid farewell to the distinguished guests Majesty Emperor Akihito and Her Imperial Majesty Empress Michiko in true Taj spirit.
