Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi today and urged the Centre to allocate 4445 crore rupees for permanent flood control structures in Chennai.

He told the media after the meeting with the Prime Minister in Delhi that he has also sought 5426 crore rupees due from the Integrated GST as the state’s share. He informed that he has asked the Centre not to accord permission for the Mekadatu dam project across the River Cauvery proposed by Karnataka saying, it would affect the interests of Tamil Nadu farmers.

Mr Palaniswamy said, he has also urged the Centre to establish the promised All India Institute of Medical Sciences at Thoppur in Madurai at the earliest.

When asked about forging alliance with the BJP ahead of the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls, Mr Palaniswamy said, elections are far away and a decision would be arrived in due time. On the Sterlite copper smelter plant issue, he said the state government would not permit any project that is against the interests of the public.
