  • Tata Power Energising Lives in Cyclone Hit Odisha; Restoring Damaged Power Network

    New Delhi: Nearly 10 million people in Odisha are grappling with the inconvenience of disruption in power supply in the aftermath of the Cyclone Fani which ravaged the state at a speed of 200 KMPH late last week. As per Govt. estimate, most of coastal Odisha, including the state capital Bhubaneswar have witnessed uprooting of 100,000 electricity poles, several substations and low transmission lines that have been completely damaged. In such a scenario, Tata Power is contributing its bit towards bringing back lives on track in the state. Tata Power -DDL has sent a team comprising of 25 engineers & technicians from its regular Operations to assist the State Government in resurrecting the damaged power network.

    Before leaving for Odisha, the team took stock of the situation to understand the extent of the damage via reports from the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD), National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Odisha State Administration.

    Mr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & Managing Director, Tata Power, said, “As an integral part of the Tata Group, we always endeavor to stand by the fellow Indians in need. After the global recognition to the country for successfully managing the cyclone, let us all join hands in resurrecting Odisha with our concentrated efforts. Our team of engineers and technicians along with equipment has already reached Odisha and is helping in faster restoration of power supplies”. 

    Mr. Sanjay Banga. CEO, Tata Power – DDL, said, The early restoration of power supply significantly contributes towards the faster relief and rehabilitation work. It not only restores public confidence but also sends a message that things are under control. We’re happy to give our contribution for a faster recovery of Odisha.”

    Tata Power Solar has also distributed over 4000 solar lanterns to villagers in order to provide immediate relief.

    Tata Power’s team is being assisted by Tata Steel – Kalinganagar and JUSCO for the restoration of electrical lines. Air Vistara has also extended its full air travel and freight support for the team. Tata Trusts and Tata Projects Community Development Trust is helping by providing Drinking Water Supply to the affected areas.

    Tata Power has always been at the forefront in helping the people of country at the time of need. Tata Power has recently supported the Relief & Rehabilitation Work in Kerala in the aftermath of the devastating floods by dispatching 473 KM Length of cables to Kerala State Electricity Board for faster restoration of power supply. During the Uttarakhand tragedy too, Tata Power’s Engineers and Technicians jointly worked with the Uttaranchal Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) and helped them restore 33KV and 11KV lines at Uttarkashi & Ukhimath in Rudraprayag district and Joshimath & Narainbagar in Chamoli district in a record time. In June 2014 also, Tata Power-DDL, a joint venture of Tata Power and Govt. of Delhi, efficiently managed the power network crisis in Delhi by restoring the dilapidated network post the devastated storm which hit the city at a record speed.
