TDP-BJP pact may spring a surprise in Seemandhra

By Ch. Narendra

Hyderabad (Hindusthan Samachar) : The poll alliance between TDP and BJP is expected to create political wonders in the residual state of Andhra Pradesh, known as Seemandhra region.  Here BJP is contesting in 4 Lok Sabha, out of 25 seats and 14 assemblies, out of 175 seats, leaving other seats for TDP.

Though BJP is known as weak organizationally in this region, it has cultivated lot of good will during last three decades. This was evident in 1998, when the party had won 2 Lok Sabha seats on its own, the same number it had won in the Telangana region, where BJP is known of having wide organizational network. This result had prompted TDP president and the then chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu to come closer to BJP leaving his crucial position of United Front’s Convenor.

Though the two parties are yet to start their poll campaign in the region, as presently nominatnoins process is underway, the latest NDTV’s opinion poll established that the poll alliance will brings big rewards for both the parties.

The opinion poll shows that the two parties will score 15 of 25 Lok Sabha seats, more than half. This indicates they will be in a position to form the next government in the state, as the assembly polls are also underway. This would be a shocking one for the YSR Congress Party, which is hoping to sweep the polls and form the next government.

Just two months ago, in February’s NDTV opinion poll showed that YS Jaganmohan Reddy will get 15 seats, leaving only nine for Chandrababu Naidu. This clearly establishes, the poll allilance between TDP and BJP is certainly alterning political prospects of many parties.

BJP state president Dr K Haribabu is confident that once the poll campaign starts, the graph is likely to move upwards further. According to him, BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s wave is at peak in this region, which would alter all other political considerations.
