Guwahati : In a major development, Delhi Police averted a terror strike by arresting three terrorists with Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) from Assam on Monday. The police also recovered banned literature and other explosive materials from their possession. According to police, the arrested terrorists, who are said to be inspired by the ISIS, were planning to launch a major terror attack at Assam’s Rash Mela. ARRESTED TERRORISTS INSPIRED BY ISIS BANGLADESH MODULE.In a joint operation, a team of Special Cell/New Delhi Range (NDR) led by Inspector, Sunil Rajain, Ravinder Joshi & Vinod Badola under the supervision of Lalit Mohan & Hridaya Bhushan ACsP/Special Cell, Lodhi Colony, New Delhi has busted an ISIS inspired module by apprehending three terrorists . The Delhi Police on Monday said that they have averted a terror strike in Assam with the help of local cops. According to Delhi Police Special Cell’s Deputy Commissioner of Police Pramod Kushwaha, the suspects were inspired by terror group Islamic State and “highly-radicalised”.
The men – identified as Muqaddar Islam, Ranjeet Ali, and Jameel – were apprehended in Assam’s Goalpara with an Improvised Explosive Device, baton sword and IED components. Kushwaha, while addressing a press conference, said the arrested people were reportedly planning a terror attack on Raas Mahotsav, which is associated with the Raas Leela of Lord Krishna. Giving more information, Kushwaha said while Jameel worked at an Aadhar enrolment centre, Islam was employed as a driver and Ranjit Ali worked at a trading centre. The Delhi Police further said that the attack in Assam was supposed to be a trial run as they planned to replicate the similar attack in the national capital. Without specifying the particular place, Kushwaha said the Delhi areas that experience heavy footfall were on the men’s target. He added that a detailed interrogation will reveal further links.The accused persons were carrying a complete IED to detonate the same at Raas-Mela, a local fair in Dudhnoi of district Goalpara in Assam. The timely intervention saved many lives as Raasmela has heavy footfall. Team of Inspector Sunil Kumar Rajain was present at the spot for identification of terrorists and they along with police party acted swiftly and apprehended the active terrorists of ISIS inspired module from the spot before they could place the IED at Raasmela.
