The Assam government provided 35,800 free scooties to meritorious students at a cost of Rs 258.9 crore

GUWAHATI :The Assam government has provided scooters to around 36,000 meritorious class 12 pass students this year, mostly girls. Today, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has given these scooties to meritorious students. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the programme has been implemented at a cost of Rs 258.9 crore.

Of the total 35,800 students, 29,748 girls secured first division and 6,052 boys scored 75 per cent marks, all of whom have been given scooters, he said. Sarma also announced today that an allowance of Rs 1000 will be given to each student who does post graduation every month. Speaking at the formal distribution of scooters to meritorious students of Higher Secondary Examination, 2022 under Pragyan Bharti Scheme, the Assam CM said, “This time the state government is considering to launch a new scheme under which Rs 1000 will be provided to all girl students pursuing post-graduation like MA, MTech, MCom or MSc.Sarma further said that students have to bear the cost of travelling from home to the university with tea or coffee, so the state government has taken this decision to give relief to their parents. “Universities close for 2 months in a year, so students will get a total of Rs 10,000 for 10 months.

Notably, the education department will launch a portal in which all girl students pursuing post-graduation can register their names to avail financial assistance. Sarma also remarked that the same facility will be available to students who are pursuing their graduation in the coming years. Later, they distributed scooters to students who got first division and above in the veterinary playground. Student students securing first division and 75 per cent and above marks in Higher Secondary Examination, 2022 from Kamrup (M) and Kamrup district under Pragyan Bharati Scheme.
