Bangalore: Riding high on the success of its launch last year, ‘Art Bengaluru- 2011’, South India’s premier festival for contemporary art is back with its 2nd Edition. The Collection, UB City in association with Sublime Galleria and Art Chutney presents this annual forum which aims to bring together artists, galleries, art collectors, art enthusiasts and the best in contemporary Indian art. The festival will be held at the prestigious UB City, which is today the city’s hotspot for Fashion, Luxury and Fine Art. The Collection, UB City is not only the venue but has played a pivotal role in conceptualizing and bringing this event to reality.
This year’s festival promises to be extra special, with proceeds of the Art and Luxury auction held at the end of the festival to be given to the HCG Foundation, which is dedicated to provide free cancer treatment to patients who cannot afford it.
Art Bengaluru will also witness several prominent art enthusiasts supporting the cause this year including Murali Cheeroth – artist, Renu George – participating gallerist, Raj Bagaria- organizer & founder, Yusuf Arakkal – artist, Manu Dosaj – participating gallerist, Raja Kanal – participating gallerist, Franck Barthelemy – International art consultant and Angira Arya – auctioneer to name a few.
Said Ms. Uzma Irfan – Founder of Sublime Galleria, organizer of Art Bengaluru & Director, Corporate Communications, Prestige Group, “We are happy to present the second edition of Art Bengaluru which is a mélange of Fine Art from across India. Bengaluru does not have a dedicated festival for Fine Art and we hope Art Bengaluru will address just that. The event this year will be much bigger and vibrant with many more artists and galleries participating to make it a success.”
Starting on June 17th, 2011, Art Bengaluru will continue till June 25th, 2011. The week-long art festival this year will feature an art exhibition and a series of events including a children’s art contest, an art workshop, speaker sessions, film screening and finally culminate with a star-studded art and luxury auction.
Adds Kapila Sengupta – Head Operations & Promotions, The Collection, UB City, “We have scaled up the festival this year on several counts including more participation from national galleries, increased activities around art along with workshops, contests, etc and a Luxury and Art Auction – the first ever in the City. The response from our patrons last year has inspired us to create a unique event that is in line with international art shows organized worldwide.”
This year Art Bengaluru will adopt QR technology to help network with a wider section of art enthusiasts by providing easy access to knowledge resources of the festival. Guests will now be able to connect with the festival website, access programme schedules, after-event party information, the auction details, etc, all from their mobile device. Hayagreev Technologies will power the solution and the QR codes will be placed strategically throughout the festival zone and interconnected with social media sites including Facebook and Twitter.
QR Code or Quick Response Code is a 2 dimensional (2D) bar code that is readable through any QR reader using a smartphone. QR codes can store any kind of data including web addresses, videos, contact information, sms, etc. When users with a smartphone equipped with a QR reader scan the image of the QR code, they are taken directly to the website, or shown a video or provided the relevant contact information, and all on their mobile handset.
