  • The Fabric of Our Lives: The Story of Fabindia’

    Bengaluru: Commemorating 50 years, Fabindia Overseas Private Limited announces the launch of ‘The Fabric of Our Lives: The Story of Fabindia’ by Radhika Singh. Published by Penguin, the book is being launched across the country with a 10 metro road show. The book is being formally launched along with a reading of the book by the author – Radhika Singh.

    Fabric of Our Lives traces the remarkable journey of Fabindia – an iconic Indian brand. It explores Founder – John Bissell’s passion and commitment to the incredible craft of India. Spanning 50 years of Fabindia, the book gives insights into the life of the company -which started out as an export house for handloom products and grew to become India’s largest private retail platform for craft based products.

    The book explores the company’s genesis and its exciting growth against the backdrop of India’s own evolution. It illustrates how Fabindia created significant business relationships with artisans, which has shaped the way the company has evolved.

    Speaking about the book, Managing Director William Bissell remarks “books on business usually follow a narrative of moving from one big event to another. In our story Radhika has focused on the people, on the everyday work and decisions that built, what is today, one of India’s best-loved brands. At the end of the day any business is about the people, their motivations and the way they deal with the different situations that give a company its character.”

    Laila Tyabji, doyen of Indian handicrafts, while reviewing the book said “It was Fabindia that taught us that wearing and using handloom and block prints could be contemporary and stylish.” Talking about the book she says “Radhika Singh’s Fabindia chronicle, written with warmth, objectivity, and insight, is the riveting story of a tiny textile export business into an iconic store and then a megamoth chain (135 shops and still growing).
