  • The Interior Design Industry size in India is estimated to be Rs 20,000crore and Telugu states supposed to have one-tenth as its share which is put at Rs 2000crore

    Hyderabad : The Hyderabad Regional Chapter(HRC) of the apex body for the interior professionals in the field of Interior Design in India —- IIID—Institute of Indian Interior Designers to organize “IIID Showcase Insider 2018” a three-day trade expo which will showcase all verticals of the building industry.

    Interior Design in India,  comprises of architects, interior designers, trade members, and educationists; on a single platform to sharing ideas about emerging trends in the design industry.  Hyderabad is one of the 30 regional chapters and centers of IIID. The Hyderabad Regional Chapter founded in the year 1996 has about 600 members on its rolls.  IIID nationally has 6800 members from across the country.

    The unique and the only its kind of an expo will be organized by the professionals, for the professionals, and of the professionals is the 3rd in the series, and it will be held at Hitex, Madhapur for three days on June 22, 23 and 24th.   It will be a B2B exhibition.

    Expo is specially crafted for the interior design, architecture and construction industries and aims to bring industry professionals and the common man on to a single platform. Spread over three days, the B2B Trade Expo will showcase emerging trends and contemporary design solutions.

    The show will be organized in support with the Indian Institute of Architects (IIA)-Telangana Chapter, the Crafts Council of AP and Telangana, ISHRAE-Deccan Chapter, Indian Plumbing Association, INTACH and FSAI and others.

    Disclosing this addressing a press conference here in the city today Aparna Bidarkar, Chairperson IIID-HRC; Sona Chatwani, Immediate Past Chairperson IIID-HRC; Amita Raj, Hon. Secretary; Manoj Wahi, Design Showcase Convenor,;  Suleman Hirani, Design Showcase Convener (Trade)and Rakesh Vasu, Design Showcase Co-Convenor, IIID Showcase Insider X 2018 said this will be only its kind of an expo which will where 102 exhibitors will showcase 500 plus products in 30 and above categories and is spread over 7200 sq meters area. 3000 business visitors comprised of Architects, Interior Designers and other professionals are expected to visit the fair.  About 6000 to 8000 general visitors are also expected during the three days of the show.

    The expo will showcase six proto-types developed by students from six different teams who underwent various Workshops. These prototypes are developed as a result of those workshops as a solution to the problems they were assigned.   Some of these prototype designs include: 01. KBR Park Entry and Seating; 2. Muslim Jung Bridge(Seating), 3. Vendor stalls of informal weekly markets; 4. Begumpet Transport Node(seating); 5. View Point at Prashanthnagar(Shaded seating) and 6. Hari Hari Kala Bhavan(Seating).

    The proto-types exhibited are the outcomes of the Workshops “Reimaging Urban Spaces”  held from June 14 to 16 at Saptaparni, Banjara Hills.  These proto-types which will be showcased will be disaplayed and reviewed by Architect Sanjay Mohe from Bangalore; Dinesh Korjan, an Industrial Designer from Ahmedabad and senior officials from GHMC and Metro Rail Corporation.

    The objective of the workshop was to focus on the potential of design intervention to transform dynfuncitoinal public spaces in Hyderabad into vibrant and livable spaces.  Hyderabad, once city of bags and water bodies turned into a place lacking public spaces, natural assets and related services and facilities required to generate a healthy social life.  The workshop explored how to transform dysfunctional public spaces through specific design interventions.

    Speaking on the occasion, Manoj Wahi said, the Indian Interior Design Industry size on a conservative estimate is put Rs 20,000crore off which the size of the industry in the Telugu states, he put it as could be one-tenth of it at Rs 2000crore.  The sector is mostly unorganized, and the size could be even bigger he said. Moreover, added that it is growing at a rapid pace of 15 to 20 percent per annum.

    The proposed three day fair will be the launch pad for many unique and innovative products, the speakers informed.  A hi-end elevator for homes is getting launched during the expo.

    Godrej & Boyce, part of the diversified Godrej group, is expected to introduce its furniture brand “Script” to the local market through the expo.  The script will feature “premium expressive” furniture which focuses on functional design including customizable cabinets and reading corners among others. The premium furniture brand positioned in the mid-premium market worth that it estimates at nearly Rs10,000 crore will be launched in the domestic market via this expo, they added.

    Another exhibitor would be launching the largest format of 4×8 feet tiles. Local company Darpan will be launching a special fabric. Unique digital locks will also be launched during the three day expo.

    When asked about the likely amount of business expected to generate out of the expo, Manoj Wahi said that he didn’t want to speculate on that but, based on the experience, the exhibition may generate Rs 500crore worth business post the event.

    IIID-HRC Chairperson Ar. Aparna Bidarkar stated that “The IIID Hyderabad Chapter hosts the Design Showcase event annually to expose the Hyderabad fraternity to the latest trends, thought and innovations in the Design industry. It is a comprehensive forum covering every vertical, offering every element, from smart devices to turnkey solutions.

    We would like to be at the forefront of defining the aspirations of the common man on the one hand and helping with design solutions for our government departments on the other.” Said Co-Convenor Ar. Rakesh Vasu, “The InsiderX is a unique event that converges all verticals of the building industry.”

    The theme of the show is “Innovation”.  It will address the Innovation in Design.  Eminent Bengaluru-based Architect Sanjay Mohe will inaugurate the show along IIID’s Natl. President Mr. Pratap Jadhav on 22nd morning at 11am.  The expo will be open from 10 am to 5pm on 22nd and 23rd June for Business Visitors and 5pm to 8pm for General Visitors.  On 24th June it will be open for both business and general visitors from 10am to 7pm.  The organizers have made available 10,000 entry passes which are already distributed. Those who couldn’t lay their hands of passes need to a nominal entrance fee of Rs 150/-.

    Sanjay Mohe will also deliver Keynote address to industry professionals on the same day evening

    Towards bringing quality to urban living, a design workshop is being conducted for students, under the tutelage of Product Designer, Mr. Sandeep Sangaru and practicing Architects, Urban Designers, Landscape Architects from Hyderabad. This workshop aims to develop innovative and creative urban utility products. We are seeking to revitalize and beautify Hyderabad by complementing the fast-growing urban infrastructure to make it a world-class city informed Aparna.

    The workshop involves students working on two different projects based on their year of study. The 1st and 2nd-year students will be creating a product out of unused waste collected from construction sites and furniture industry. Whereas, the students 3rd year and above will be going through an intense workshop with product designers and Architects working on Urban Utility products.
