    Mumbai:   The year 2021 marked several high points in India’s startup economy as nine tech startups got listed on the public market whereas, 44 new unicorns were introduced. India’s unicorn tally now stands at 83 and experts believe Indian startups’ 2021 performance chart will only go higher in the years to follow. 

    Despite the warning from investors as they advised firms to “prepare for the worst” when COVID’s second wave started stirring friction in early 2021, the year pushed the Indian startup ecosystem to bring out its ace game. According to the data from insight platform, Tracxn, capital flowing to Indian startups soared to $39 billion in 2021, which is nearly three times from the previous best of $14.6 billion in 2019.

    Here are the identified 22 startups to watch out for in 2022, that may turn unicorns.

    1. Skyroot Aerospace (Spacetech)

      Skyroot Aerospace is India’s first space launch vehicle startup developing launch vehicles for cost effective access to space. Founded in 2018 in the South Indian city of Hyderabad, Skyroot Aerospace is constructing technologies that offer reliable access to space. Skyroot Aerospace was founded by engineers of ISRO’s rocket designing arm – Pawan Kumar Chandana and Naga Bharath Daka.Currently, the start-up is testing a cryogenic engine that will run on cleaner burning liquid natural gas. In May 2021, Skyroot Aerospace raised $11 million in Series-A funding round.
    2. Agnikul (Spacetech)

      Agnikul is a space tech startup that designs, manufactures, tests, and launch orbital class rockets for micro and nano satellites. A defence and space start-up, AgniKul Cosmos builds launch vehicles to lift small satellites into low earth orbit.

      Founded in Chennai in 2017, AgniKul Cosmos has raised $14.58 million in total funding over 4 rounds. Their latest funding was raised on May 19, 2021 through a Series A round. The founders of AgniKul Cosmos are Srinath Ravichandran, Moin SPM, Satyanaryan Chakravarthy, and Janardhana Raju.

    3. Simpl (Fintech)
