  • Theft cover for bikes under two wheeler insurance

    Published on November 6, 2019

Two-wheelers are considered to be one the easiest means to move around on our congested roads. Apart from this, many enthusiasts have also started buying superbikes as a hobby. With the number of two-wheelers rising on Indian roads, unexpected situations such as accidents and theft are also becoming common. Thus getting two wheeler insurance for accident cover and theft is very important.

In order to get accident and theft cover you must buy a comprehensive two wheeler insurance policy. Comprehensive bike insurance takes care of any damages that are incurred by your bike in case of an accident and any damages incurred by a third party or third party property.

Benefits of theft cover under two wheeler insurance plans

Another important advantage that is offered by two wheeler insurance is the fact that you are covered in case your bike is stolen. Even when it comes to locked homes, theft and burglaries are quite common, and bikes do tend to be stolen quite often.

The recovery rate for stolen bikes is much less than that of stolen cars. In a city like Delhi, two wheeler theft occurs every fifteen minutes. Losing your bike can cost you a lot, if you do not have proper bike insurance in place. A comprehensive long term two wheeler insurance policy for your bike would offer coverage against the theft of your bike.

Losing your bike will, of course, be quite a blow, but at least a two wheeler insurance will provide you with the financial assistance you would require in such cases.

Steps to Follow in Case of Theft

If your bike is stolen, you will need to file a claim with your insurance provider as early as possible.

Here is the process you need to follow:

    File an FIR

Whether it is an accident or a theft, you should file a First Information Report (FIR) at the police station before you put in the insurance claim. For that, you will need to submit a copy of this FIR with the claim form to establish the credibility of the claim. The FIR is not always compulsory hence get in touch with your insurance company to verify the requirements.

Get in Touch With Your Insurance Provider

In case of theft, you will not be able to file a claim after a certain number of days. So, get in touch with your bike insurance provider as soon as you have filed the FIR. Report the theft to them so that the claim process can begin. Give them the necessary details like policy number of your two wheeler insurance, bike registration details and details about what happened.

    Submit Documents

Generally, you need to submit a duly signed and attested claim form, an original copy of the FIR, a copy of the RC, policy document copy, driver license copy, transfer papers from the RTO and the original keys while making the claim.

    No Trace Report

You will also need a certificate from the police stating that the bike cannot be traced. This certificate is generated after a month of the date of the incident and is very important for the processing of your claim.
