  • TN assembly resolution to retrieve Katchatheevu for establishing Indian fishermen’s rights

    jayalalithaThe Tamil Nadu Assembly today passed an unanimous resolution to retrieve Katchatheevu for establishing the fishing rights of the Indian Fishermen.

    In the special motion brought by the state Chief Minister Ms.Jayalalithaa today, members representing all the parties including the Congress supported the move for the retrieval of Katchatheevu.

    In her reply to the motion, Ms.Jayalalithaa recalled the historical account of the islet and also listed out the various hardships faced by fishermen in Tamil Nadu.

    She said that the fishermen have been denied of their livelihood because of the violation by the Sri Lankan Government in the accord signed in 1974 at numerous instances.

    The resolution passed in the Assembly reiterated that Indian Government should take efforts to retrieve Katchatheevu and the neighbouring areas demanding immediate action to establish the fishing rights of Indian fishermen.
