Bangalore: Toyota Kirloskar Motor in line with company’s safety mission announced its participation and dedicated support to the Road Safety Week organized by the Bangalore Traffic Police Department. This initiative will run through the week of 9th – 16th of January 2016, with the theme for this year as Road Safety – Time for Action. With active participation from over 20,000 children from schools across the city, this year’s Road safety week was flagged off at Kanteerva Stadium to create widespread awareness on the importance of road and traffic safety to build a safer and responsible traffic environment in the city.
The week-long awareness drive was inaugurated by G Parmeshwar, Home Minister, Govt of Karnataka, followed by the release of the road safety booklet by Ramalinga Reddy, Minister for Transport, Govt of Karnataka. The event was also attended by eminent personalities K J George, Minister for Bengaluru Development and Town Planning, B N Manjunatha Reddy, Mayor, BBMP. Mr. Naomi Ishii, MD, Toyota Kirloskar Motor and Mr. T.S Jaishankar, Deputy Managing Director were amongst the dignitaries present from Toyota Kirloskar Motor. The inauguration ceremony also saw the felicitation of the best cops for their commendable efforts and contributions extended to reduce the traffic woes in the city. 18 breath analyzers were donated by TKM, which was handed over to Dr. M A Saleem, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) by the MD, Naomi Ishii.
Bangalore saw 4828 accidents (as of December 2015), this year. On an average, two people die in road mishaps each day in the city.* 20 children under the age of 14 die every day due to road crashes. This initiative will aim at building awareness among the citizens around the growing concern of road safety. Over 20,000 students and around 10,000 public participated for the ceremony. There was March past by the students, as well as different stalls had been set up to showcase different aspects of Road Safety.

If everyone starts following traffic rules and makes a conscious effort to make the roads safer, then it can help prevent a lot of accidents and loss of life and property. Speaking on the event, Dry MA Saleem, IPS, Add Commissioner of Police, Traffic said, “We are happy to receive the active participation from TKM and their support in promoting importance of Road and traffic Safety. This initiative is organized to educate citizens, especially the young school children about the importance and seriousness of the issue of road safety. It is imperative to inculcate the right sense of traffic safety in the future generation to bring in more responsibility and consciousness while using the roads.”
As a safety leader in the industry, Toyota Kirloskar Motor has been engaged in Road Safety initiative since 2005 through various pan India campaigns. The company has engaged with over 6 lakh students across India through its “Toyota Safety Education Programmed” which aims at spreading road safety awareness amongst children of 10 – 14 years. Toyota has educated 30,000 school children in the city of Hyderabad as a part of TSEP. In addition, TKM has reached out to close to 1250 taxi drivers by conducting Safety Training Program and Health Check-up Camp For drivers at Bengaluru airport. In its dedication for safer vehicles, safer drivers, and safer traffic environments the company launched Toyota Driving School across India, to impart quality driving training to bring down the rising number of road accidents caused majorly due to human error. The training module will integrate technical expertise along with enhancing behavioral skills to create awareness about safety nationwide.

As a commitment to ensure safest cars with safest drivers, Toyota has developed computer-based virtual human models, known as THUMS, to analyze and simulate situations that are closer to the actual accident. THUMS is a millennial crash test dummy. Designed as an experimental virtual model of the human body, THUMS with organs, bone, ligaments, tendons, and muscle. It is computer animated with 80,000 cyber parts, including a heart – to pinpoint precisely which parts of the body are affected, and how, by various high-impact accidents.
