The Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA), in collaboration with the Assam Science Society, recently organized an intensive Residential Orientation Program on Teaching Methodology for teachers of Science and Mathematics that concluded on Wednesday. Education Minister Dr, Ranoj Pegu graced the valedictory session of the 3-day training programme that commenced from 16th-18th May for mathematics teachers and from 20th-22ndMay for science teachers. The training session aimed at enhancing the pedagogical skills of educators, equipping them with innovative and effective teaching strategies initiated to meet the needs of modern learners. The valedictory session was also graced by Dr AK Pansari, Chancellor Royal Global University, Shri RC Jain, Chairman, Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA) and Dr. Dhireswar Kalita, President, Assam Science Society.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ranoj Pegu emphasized the importance of incorporating Continuing Teaching Education (CTE) for the holistic development of educators, both physically and mentally. He highlighted that CTE is crucial for maintaining competence and staying updated with new developments in their field, fostering continuous growth and improvement in the educational sector. Additionally, Dr. Pegu described teaching as an art that requires a seamless combination of knowledge and skills to effectively disseminate information. He underscored the need for educators to master both content and delivery methods to ensure students understand and engage with the material meaningfully.
Dr. A.K. Pansari, Chancellor of Royal Global University, emphasized that teachers play a crucial role in shaping their students’ character and values. He urged educators to instil qualities such as generosity, selflessness, and sensitivity towards societal issues and nature. By exemplifying integrity, kindness, and a strong work ethic, teachers can inspire students to adopt these values and develop empathy and responsibility. Incorporating lessons on community service, environmental stewardship, practical knowledge, and Vedic Maths fosters a compassionate and aware generation. Through their actions and attitudes, teachers have a unique opportunity to influence students to become well-rounded, ethical individuals who contribute positively to society.
Teachers from 17 districts participated in the training program, along with 30 teachers from the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET). The three-day training session provided them with innovative teaching methods, which they were excited to implement. They expressed enthusiasm about sharing these new strategies with their colleagues, aiming to enhance the overall education system.
