    Published on June 13, 2011

Mumbai:  TÜV SÜD has won the contract for providing quality assurance services during the realization of a large-scale photovoltaic (PV) project in India. TÜV SÜD, one of the world’s leading providers of testing, auditing, inspection and certification, training and technical consultancy services, will deliver end-to-end support throughout the realization of the plant, from drawing board to commissioning. The PV power station will have a total capacity of 125 MW.

India’s state energy supplier Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (MahaGenco) will erect a photovoltaic power station with a total capacity of 125 MW in Shivajinagar, in the Dhule district, Maharashtra, India. Two different technologies will be used for the power station. 75 MW of the capacity will be produced in three blocks using crystalline silicone PV modules, and 50 MW in two further blocks with the help of thin-film terrestrial modules. The entire PV power plant comprises five blocks that will network with each other. TÜV SÜD will ensure quality assurance throughout the construction process up to the commissioning of the plant.

“We are very pleased to partner MahaGenco in this landmark project”, says Gerhard Klein, Business Area Manager Renewables at TÜV SÜD Industry Division. “The PV plant in Shivajinagar will be one of the largest facilities worldwide. The realization of a plant on this scale poses a challenge for all stakeholders.” This applies not only to the quality control of the PV modules and quality assurance during the construction of the five PV blocks, but also to the connection of the blocks to each other and the grid, and to the alignment of the individual components. “The connection and alignment of the blocks are critical to the function and performance of the power station”, explains Bratin Roy, Renewables Sector Manager at TÜV SÜD South Asia and project manager of this project.

As one of the global leading technical service providers, TÜV SÜD has extensive experience in the realization of large-scale projects in the energy industry – from conventional power stations to renewable energy plants. TÜV SÜD PV experts partner clients globally; supporting manufacturers and operators to realize safe, reliable and profitable plants, and assisting investors in making the right investment decisions. Its comprehensive range of photovoltaic services extends from testing and certification of PV systems, PV modules and PV components in accordance with national and international standards and directives to profitability checks, feasibility studies, site and environmental assessments, supplier evaluation as well as technical due diligence.
