UPA meet on food security bill, Jharkhand issues tomorrow

The much awaited Food Security Bill is expected to reach a higher level on Monday as Congress will discuss the bill in its UPA Coordination Committee meet which is to be held tomorrow.

The decision was taken in the Congress Core Group meet at the Prime Minister’s residence on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the UPA Government has an option to get the Food Security bill passed either in a special session of the parliament, or to implement through an ordinance or executive order.

Sources said possibilities will be made to take a final call in the UPA meet. It was also revealed that decision will be taken about the President’s rule in Jharkhand.

The Core Group also discussed the Chhattisgarh situation and the scenario in Andhra Pradesh over the Telangana demand.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh were present in the meeting.

Other Union leaders including Ahmed Patel, A K Antony, P Chidambaram, Sunshil Kumar Shinde were also present in the meet.

Food Minister K V Thomas and Congress Incharge of Andhra Pradesh Ghulam Nabi Azad were the special invitees.

According to Congress sources, to forge consensus on food security bill, an All-party meeting may be held by 7th June.
