  • Gurugram : XebiaAcademy Global, the education business unit of Xebia, had organized a company visit for UPES students pursing B. Tech in Computer Science. It was a two-day learning event for final year students who are undergoing specialized courses on DevOps and Big data offered to them by Xebia. The visit gave students real-time industry exposure and a peep into the transition from classroom lectures to building practical solutions. The learning session included a broad range of topics focussed on both technical and behavioural aspects including current & emerging technology trends and people management skills. It also provided industry orientation to make them aligned with market requirements.

    Currently, it is felt that there is a significant gap between skill sets required in industry and curriculum in academic institutes. Consequently, organizations end up spending a lot of resources on fresh recruits which in this fast-changing world is increasingly becoming difficult. Therefore, Xebia is committed towards helping students getting them industry ready by acquiring skills/knowledge across the latest technology practices. During this visit, students got an opportunity to interact and attend talks from senior professionals on Digital assurance, Public cloud, IAAC, future of DevOps, and Big Data to name a few. In a session, Rahul Sharma, Director Delivery, Xebia Global Services, addressed the young workforce and gave a snapshot of key technology trends of 2020 in order for them to understand the metamorphosis which the tech industry is undergoing, and skills required to stay technically relevant in such a fluid market.

    Further case studies and real-time project challenges were shared with students which gave them a clear picture of today’s IT ecosphere.

    The learning sessions were just not only focused on the professional growth of students but also covered skill and behaviour aspect which are required in the corporate environment. In a talk delivered by Glory Nelson, CPO, Xebia Global Services, sheemphasized on need for students to develop soft skills in addition to technical skills. According to her, this would facilitate to improve their employability and provide them additional growth tools for corporate and personal life.

    UPES Alumni who are currently associated with Xebia shared their experience and journey with students. They talked about their transition from being a student to a technology specialist and exciting opportunities that may come across in future.

    The collaboration between Xebia and UPES is a great step in bridging the industry-academia gap and such industry exposure will foster students with next-generation skills and make them future-ready. This initiative will help students to fast track themselves into corporate life and will help industry to induct fresh talent and provide them an accelerated career path.
