  • New Delhi/Mumbai: Vedanta, India’s leading producer of metals and oil & gas, conferred the prestigious Chairman’s award to all its Covid Warriors for their outstanding work, recognizing their efforts towards community services, setting up of the Vedanta Cares Field hospital project and providing oxygen support. Outstanding achievers from the business units have been recognised as well.

     This is the second year in a row that Vedanta has acknowledged & encouraged the COVID warriors, who collaborated with the company in combating COVID 19 through a host of community initiatives.

    Vedanta Chairman Anil Agarwal said “I am grateful for the commitment and support shown by the Vedanta team and its partners during these challenging times. We strongly believe in the philosophy of giving back and our efforts are geared towards supporting our communities and the governments.”

    According to Vedanta Group CEO Sunil Duggal: “The Chairman’s Award is our most prestigious internal award and it is a gesture to commemorate the combined efforts of all those who have contributed in keeping Vedanta’s wheels running, business wise, as well as those who have made sure the communities get the care that they need in the current situation.”

    The winners of the Chairman’s Award under the category of Covid Warriors for May 2021 were, Abhishek Dubey, Manager, VMRF business and Vinod Shinde, Head ER/PR- Central Cluster, Iron Ore Business.

    Special awards were given under the category of ‘Recognition for Covid Hospital Project’ to employees from various Businesses such as VLJ, Sterlite Copper, BALCO, ESL, Cairn and VLL. The exemplary work and vital role played by Mr Dhiraj Nayyar, Director, Economics & Policy and Mr Sharad Gargiya, Group Chief Commercial Officer, on setting up the Covid Care Field Hospitals with 1,000 critical care beds was well recognised and appreciated.

    Vedanta Iron Ore Business team recognised for the exemplary contribution in setting up and launch of two Vedanta Cares COVID Field Hospitals at Chitradurga & Hubli, Adding up 200 beds Medical infrastructure for COVID patients in the Karnataka state. Besides this Vedanta’s Iron Ore Business team worked relentlessly for setting up 100 bedded medical infrastructure consisting of  20 critical care beds and 80 oxygenated beds, equipped with 10 ventilators & essential equipments including central monitoring system, ABG machine, X- ray machine etc., to Goa Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) at Bambolim. Also the team has worked dedicatedly in providing support to Goa Govt. in combating COVID by providing 200 oxygen concentrators, 125 jumbo oxygen cylinders and ensuring daily supply of 3 tonnes of free liquid medical oxygen to Goa Govt. during second wave of COVID. So far over 100 tonnes of liquid Medical oxygen is supplied to Goa Govt.

    Vedanta supplied over 15 lakh litres of oxygen to Covid patients during the pandemic and the awards were conferred under the category – ‘Recognition for Oxygen Production And Supplies At Our Various Plants And Locations’ for the outstanding work done by various businesses including Sterlite Copper, HZL, IOB, ESL and BALCO.

    The awards were also handed out to the Winner for the Best Performing Mancom – May 2021 to Group Commercial ManCom and Winner for the Best Performing Business Partner – May 2021 to Hencon India Services Pvt Ltd.

    Vedanta’s Chairman’s Awards encourage and reward outstanding business performance, sustainability performance of business units across the Vedanta Group, across the criteria of Sustainability performance, Asset optimization, Operational performance, Performance management practices, and Quality improvement initiatives.
