PLYMOUTH, CARVER, KINGSTON:Habitat for Humanity of Greater Plymouth (HFHGP; www.hfhplymouth.org) is pleased to announce the organization was recently awarded a grant of $2,500 from the Vermont Mutual Insurance Group Giving Fund. This grant is earmarked for construction support of two homes on Long Pond Road in Plymouth, both of which were designated for military veterans and their families.
The Vermont Mutual Insurance Group Giving Fund provides financial support to organizations that help to build, maintain, and enrich healthy lives and strong vibrant communities. Satisfying basic needs – like supporting affordable housing or helping to alleviate homelessness or hunger – is one of four initiatives on which the fund is primarily focused.
Later this month, two single-mother veterans and their five children (collectively) will close on their two new homes recently completed in Plymouth. This grant will help cover the costs of the final stages of construction and necessary finishing touches before these two families are able to call these new residences home.
“Support from the business community has always been crucial to our work, and we are so grateful for Vermont Mutual Insurance’s support of these important projects,” said Jim Middleton, executive director of HFHGP. “Everyone deserves a decent, affordable place to live, including our veterans and their families, and grants like these truly help them build their own homes right alongside our volunteers.”
More efforts are underway to identify and secure new land throughout the HFHGP’s region, which includes Plymouth, Kingston, Carver, Middleboro, Plympton, and Lakeville, in order to help address the significant increasing need for affordable workforce housing.
