VisitBritain has partnered with ESPNCricinfo to launch a new competition inspiring visitors to book a trip to Britain during the lead-up to the Biggest Festival of Cricket in England & Wales this year.

The competition, ‘The Biggest Fan Challenge’, will promote destinations in Britain where the Indian Cricket team is scheduled to play this summer, inspiring visitors from India to travel further and stay longer.

The ‘Biggest Fan Challenge’ went live on Facebook on Friday 8 February and will run until Sunday 31 March. The winner will travel to Britain and visit the match destinations of Birmingham, Leeds and London as well as Manchester, Nottingham and Southampton.

VisitBritain APMEA Director Tricia Warwick said:

“India is a very important market for VisitBritain and we want Britain to be the number one destination globally for Indian travellers. A shared passion for cricket is a very strong connection between our countries. The Biggest Festival of Cricket in England and Wales provides us with a fantastic and valuable opportunity to promote our associated destinations and tourism activities.

“We know visitors from India rate Britain highly for its interesting and exciting culture with the vibrancy of cities such as Manchester holding huge appeal. Our partnership with ESPNCricinfo promotes more great reasons to for Indian visitors to come to Britain right now, travel further and stay longer.”

The competition targets audiences who are looking for adventure and authentic experiences and will see the entries compete to be ‘The Biggest Fan’ by taking part in a game as well as posting a video or image explaining why they should be the winner.

VisitBritain is also inspiring visitors from India to travel to Britain through its ‘Find Your GREAT Britain, I Travel For…’ campaign, shining the spotlight on unexpected experiences and less explored destinations across Britain alongside its globally renowned and iconic landmarks and attractions, driving tourism across the nations and regions.

Visitors from India spend more in Britain on average per visit and stay longer than the average inbound visitor, spending more than half their time outside London.

The latest forward flight booking data shows that bookings from South Asia to the UK are tracking up 7% from February to July this year compared to the same period in 2018.
