  • Water darkens Kameng river in Indo-China border area of Arunachal Pradesh

    Published on October 31, 2021

Guwahati : In Arunachal Pradesh, the waters of kameng river suddenly turned black. This killed millions of fish in the river. When the local administration came to know about this, their hands and feet swelled. The administration has appealed to the people not to consume river water or fish till further orders. The local administration has constituted a team of experts to look into the matter.

District Fisheries Officer Hali Tajo said lakhs and lakhs of fish have been found dead at district headquarters Seppa. The official source has raised doubts that China has once again misbehaved with India. District fisheries officials say that the water has turned black due to increased quantity of total decomposed substances in the water. People living in the Seppa area near the river have blamed China for this.

The construction work in China contaminated the river water, killing millions of machhalias. The cause of deaths is stated to be the large presence of TDS due to which aquatic species are neither able to see water nor breathe easily. A report was quoted as saying that the TDS in the river was 6,800 mg per litre, which is much higher than the normal limit of 300-1,200 mg per litre. Residents of SEPA blamed China for the increase in TDS in the river, alleging that the colour of the water has turned black due to construction activities by the neighbouring country.
