Wheat acreage up by 9 lakh hectares

Wheat acreage in the country has increased by over nine lakh hectares compared to last year.
According to Agriculture Ministry’s release, wheat has been sown in over 288 lakh hectares till Friday compared to over 279 lakh hectares at this time last year.
Area under pulses production has also increased by over eight lakh hectares with pulses being sown in over 145 lakh hectares as against 136 lakh hectares last year.
Acreage of oilseeds also registered a marginal increase of over two lakh hectares. However, area under rice cultivation has gone down from over 12 hectares last year to only nine lakh hectares this year.
