Guwahati: The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is being opposed across the country including Assam. Former Assam Chief Minister and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) MLA Prafulla Kumar Mahant said that we made a mistake by voting in favor of the Citizenship Amendment Bill (now law). We are considering the option of withdrawing support from the BJP government of Assam.The Prime Minister and the Home Minister should think about the people of Assam and it should not be implemented here. We will not allow it to be implemented in Assam. Amid the rift led by the party, former Assam Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta has alleged that the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) members did not let him speak on the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.The former Assam CM said that the members did not care to listen to his suggestions and said that as a leader, they should know what was happening. “Sometimes I get letters addressed to me as a consultant but they never listen to any of my advice. Honestly, even I do not know if I am really a consultant or not, ”Mahanta said at a press meet in Guwahati today.Mahanta alleged that the state government’s decision to give the state language status to the Assamese language was another way to woo people and mislead them amidst huge opposition against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. According to him, “This is to lure and mislead the people of Assam.
