  • World Environment day celebrated in Kokrajhar

    Kokrajhar : The World Environment day was observed in different parts of Kokrajhar in a befitting manner with various programmes with enthusiasm and zeal.

    The Kokrajhar Soil Conservation Division observed the day at Uttar Patgaon. Assam Soil Conservation minister Pramila Ran Brahma participated and planted saplings along with local villagers to commemorate the World Environment day.  Speaking on the occasion the minister emphasized the need for having Clean and Green environment and requested everyone to contribute in their own way to protect the environment.

    To mark the ’World Environment Day’ the BTC forest department Haltugaon Forest Division along with the 135 Bn Eco Task Force and District Legal Service, Kokrajhar organized a series of programmes for school children, local villagers and stakeholders at Dharampur village area in Kokrajhar.

    Commanding Officer of 135 Bn (Territorial Army) Eco Task Force K Sarkar, SSB Commanding Officer Jeetendra Gupta, Secretary of Legal Service Authority, Kokrajhar B Medhi, DFO Haltugaon Forest Division Prabat Kumar Brahma and others participated in the programme and delivered valuable speeches related to environment urging to firmly vow for protection and preservation of environment and develop a sense of belonging. They also called upon all citizens to work collectively towards controlling pollution thus ensuring availability of clean air.

    A tree plantation drive was carried out where school children and local villagers participated and contributed by planting saplings. The Forest Department and the Legal Service Authority have also decided to adopt the Dharampur village for the mission of green village.

    The Kokrajhar district administration also observed the World Environment day by planting saplings along the JD road near Bodoland War Cemetery in Kokrajhar. Kokrajhar ADCs Debeswar Bora, Pranjal Das, Assistant commissioner Sailen Das and locals participated in the programme.  Various programmes including plantation of saplings and awareness programmes were carried out by various organisations, NGOs and government departments in different parts of the Kokrajhar district.

    The theme for World Environment Day- 2019 is ‘Air Pollution’.
