    Haflong  : With the “Beat the Air Pollution”, the world Environment Day was observed throughout the district Of Dima Hasao in a befitting manner.

    Along with the Dima Hasao Forest department, several NGOs, Schools, Colleges, Government and semi govt institutions observed the Day with programs like public meetings, cleanliness drive, plantation and also distribution free saplings which attracted a huge participation.

    Debolal Gorlosa, Chief Executive Member, N C Hills Autonomous Council while wishing a very Happy World Environment Day said On the occasion of World Environment Day; let us remember that we have a responsibility to protect our Mother Earth as we have borrowed it from our future generation. Let us give our coming generations a healthier and happier environment to have a beautiful life.

     

    At Umrangso to celebrate World Environment Day-2019 , it had already been worked out the Plan to adopt plantation of minimum three plants under self arrangement basis in every quarter under Umrongso PHE Division campus. After that necessary care for their lives shall also be ensured.

    Furthermore, in connection with the theme for this year’s World Environment Day as “Beat the Air Pollution”, efforts are already there (since 7th Mar, 2019) with total ban on burning of wastes leading to Air Pollution. Presently, there is full stop towards burning of wastes inside our campus, said Executive Engineer, PHE, Umrangso, N Sarma. It was like a festive efforts today to make the Initiative of Umrongso PHE Division Office a grand Efforts. — However, the success will be counted after the life of each tree sapling planted, while celebrating World Environment Day-2019.     At Hatikhali, Langting, Maibang, the Forest Department observed the day by planting trees and also distributed saplings to the public.

     

    48th World Environment Day was organised by Mahur Municipality Board under the banner of Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) by planting sapling in Mahur Police Station, Mahur Primary Health Centre and at Mahur bypass National Highway in collaboration with DSU Mahur Branch, Basic Society, Diyung Sgao Youth Club Mahur and SHGs

     

    At N Leikul, a village 9 km from Haflong, a team of N. Leikul eco tourism committee and NYC planted gulmohar at “JUTHOP BUNG” (the grassland stretch below simit bung). Beautification and providing shades from the scorching heat for trekkers was the main goal of this part of the plantation drive.

     

    At Haflong Municipal Board have observed “World Environment Day 2019” by planting trees to make ‘Green Haflong clean Haflong’ a reality.

    Haflong Akanda Mandali has observed “World Environment Day 2019” by planting trees.

    At Lower Haflong welcome village also organized friendly foot ball match at Lower Haflong on the occasion of world environment day.

     

    The Dima Hasao Forest department observed the Day with daylong programme at Cultural Institute Hall starting with the ceremonial plantation of saplings by the Chief Executive Member, N C Hills Autonomous Council Debolal Gorlosa and others.

    This was followed by a well attended public meeting with the Chief Conservator of Forest, M Tungnung, IFS in the chair was attended by CEM, NCHAC as the Chief Guest while Executive Members, Golonjo Thaosen, Projit Hojai, MAC, Principal Secretary,  R Mazumder, Addl SP M Gogoi and others as the guests of honour.

     

    Addressing the gatherings speakers like Golonjo Thaosen, Principal Secretary, R Mazumder, Addl SP M Gogoi stressed on the importance of conservation of environment for the future generation.

     

    CEM Gorlosa in his speech categorically assured that the N C Hills Autonomous Council though dependent on the forest resources but concerned about the unscientific exploitation of natural resources. He informed he has stopped all the saw mills in the district and more steps are being initiated for which people’s cooperation is must. ‘Council is always committed to welfare of the district and its people’ and for such steps sometime it requires time and people support. He believes that the people of Dima Hasao are concerned over the depletion of environment and for this they would extend their support to the council as well as the council members.

    Earlier in his welcome speech CCF Tungnung appreciated the gatherings for showing interest in the cause of environment and appealed to support the aims and objective of the forest department in conservation.

    More than 23 thousands of saplings of various trees were distributed among the public.
