World’s Largest Electronics Fair Opens Tomorrow

Hong Kong:  More than 3,700 exhibitors from 28 countries and regions will take part in the 31st edition of the HKTDC Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition) and the 15th edition of electronicAsia, 13-16 October, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). That’s a new exhibitor record for the twin fairs, which together offer more than 5,300 booths. They will feature a wide range of innovations and technology, as well as green electronics products and electronic parts and components.

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the fair organiser, has arranged nearly 130 buying missions, inviting more than 9,300 buyers to source at the fairs.

HKTDC Assistant Executive Director Clare Wong said rising demand in emerging markets continues to support Hong Kong electronics exports. She noted that electronics product exports grew 12 per cent, year-on-year, to US$157 billion, in the first eight months of 2011. “The economy in traditional markets is a bit sluggish, yet consumers are still shopping for high-tech, mobile entertainment products and those for the elderly,” said Ms Wong. Hong Kong exporters can find new opportunities in traditional markets, as long as they can meet consumer demand.”

Inventive Zone

The Electronics Fair’s new Invention Zone will feature the latest innovations from the Chinese mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Many of the products will make their debut at the fair and have yet to be launched in the market. “The Electronics Fair offers international buyers the newest products and a display window for pioneering technology and inventions,” Ms Wong said. “With its competitive edge in financial, exhibition and business services, Hong Kong is emerging as Asia’s intellectual property trading and management centre.”

Over 3,100 companies from 28 countries and regions are taking part in the electronics fair. The Hall of Fame features consumer electronics with stylish design and smart functions. Among the 400 brands are Alcatel, Binatone, Coby, Fujikon, Motorola, Nextbase, VTech and Westinghouse.

New this year, the Mobile Device and Accessories Zone presents smartphones, tablet PCs and related products from some 40 exhibitors. In addition, three display areas will be set up in the Hall 1 Concourse. They include the Green Electronics Square, highlighting environmentally friendly products, the Silver Market and Healthcare Electronics, featuring products for the elderly, and Mobile Devices and Accessories, presenting the very latest gadgets.

World of Solar

electronicAsia, organised by the HKTDC and MMI Asia Pte Ltd, has attracted some 630 exhibitors from 13 countries and regions. Highlights include the World of Solar, World of Display Technology, Hong Kong Metal Parts and Components Pavilion, and Electronics Components, showcasing low-pollution products with photovoltaic (PV) technology, 3D display, OLED and many more features.

Fair conferences and seminars focus on recent developments in digital audio broadcasting, updates on green directives in EU (RoHS 2.0) and energy labelling and product trends in smartphones, tablet PCs and green electronics. Speakers include representatives from General Electric, Siemens and Asus, as well as industry leaders and academics.
