Year of gastronomy: the 300,000 Brusselicious breakfast is served!

Six months after the launch of the event, the 25 participating Brussels’ hotels are celebrating the success of the initiative with over 300,000 Brusselicious breakfasts served so far. The Brussels Hotels Association (B.H.A.), the initiator of the event, VISITBRUSSELS and Mr. Christos Doulkeridis, Minister-President in charge of Tourism for the Brussels Francophone Government celebrate the event and are confident the total amount of Brusselicious breakfasts served to tourists in 2012 will easily reach half a million serves.

For memory, the 25 participating Brussels hotels are offering since February 28 breakfast’s buffets with emphasis on local specialties. Each hotel proposes every morning to its clients not less than eight local Brusselicious labeled delicacies.

“The target of this initiative is to both establish links between local producers and hotel’s chefs and to let hotels’ clients, local and international, discovering or rediscovering Belgian local products and delicacies” explained Mr. Rodolphe Van Weyenbergh, B.H.A.’s Secretary General.

Mr. Christos Doulkeridis highlighted the positive impact on tourism generated by Brussels’ local gastronomy “Products and producers in harmony with our Region and its inhabitants: diversified, convivial, simple and tasty”

Mrs. Shimamoto and a friend, from Japan, were the 300,000th Brusselicious breakfast’s clients and will receive at home all the local products they sampled that morning. Our lucky winners have then continued their journey at the Chocolate and Cacao Museum and at the Cantillon’ brewery where they participated in the making of these typical Brussels products. They also received a 300 Euros gift card to fully enjoy their stay in Europe’s capital or to plan their next visit here.
