New Delhi: NewsX will air a special interview with the greatest Tabla player of all times – Zakir Hussain, this weekend on its weekly show ‘Art Talk’. Zakir Hussain, a legend in his own rights, and the most popular table maestro, tells incredible tales about how he started tapping “Dhin Dhin Taka Dhin” on his mother’s chest at the age of two!
As a treat for the viewer’s eyes Zakir demonstrates a ‘dialogue’ between Krishna and Radha on the Tabla, and also shows why ‘Teen Taal’ (16 beats) is the king of taals.
During the course of the interview, Zakir also laments about how during his father Ustad Allah Rakha’s time, the tabla artist was considered a second class citizen and was sent a train ticket for performances at concerts as compared to a singer who was invited by air . However he also says that now the Tabla is a frontline Indian classical instrument.
So watch out for this exciting piece of interview as the tabla maestro shares his views on the future for the Tabla.
