  • The patient walked into Aakash Healthcare, Dwarka with buring in the chest
  • Doctors performed CPR for an hour to revive him
  • Doctors prioritized the patient’s life over the initial deposit and proceeded with angioplasty
  • The patient got discharged after 2 days of observation in normal condition
  • Hospital is admitting young patients with cardiovascular disease quite often now

New Delhi :  A team of doctors at Aakash Healthcare, Dwarka saved the life of a 28-year-old boy by performing manual Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR or Chest Compression), a life-saving procedure, for almost an hour. The case of this patient was complicated as well as rare as he was young and suffered a massive cardiac arrest as soon as he landed in the emergency. This type of condition is complicated and this needs timely medical intervention, high expertise doctors and advanced ICU set up.

On 10th December 2021, the patient, Mr Ajit Bhatti, from Palam was brought to the Aakash Healthcare, Dwarka with complaints of indigestion since morning. His pulse rate was normal when he came to Hospital, but once he laid down on the bed, his heart stopped working. After 15 minutes, through CPR, he did regain consciousness, but within minutes, he collapsed again. Doctors continued to administer CPR and electric shocks to him until he was revived after 60 minutes.

“As soon as the patient went unconscious, we started CPR. It is a life-saving procedure performed in an emergency when someone’s breathing or heartbeat has stopped. In this case, we went on to do it for around 60 minutes and in the end, he regained complete consciousness,” says Dr. Shaarang Sachdev, Emergency, Critical Care, and Trauma specialist, Aakash Healthcare.

The patient was in his twenties and until this episode nobody knew that he had a heart condition. The patient himself was completely oblivious to his heart troubles. He was a smoker and was under stress.

“Heart attacks are commonly associated with people over the age of 50. But over the past few years, young patients with cardiovascular disease have risen. In this case, Mr. Ajit was physically active and even participated in sports activities. Despite this, he was completely unaware of his heart problems. Although there is no specific age at which you are more likely to have a heart attack, your lifestyle choices, nutrition plans, gym routines, and stress management can all affect your chances,” said Dr. Ashish Agarwal, Director of Cardiology, Aakash Healthcare, Dwarka.

After he gained consciousness, further investigation revealed one of his arteries was completely blocked, resulting in a major cardiac arrest. Putting the patient’s life first, doctors performed angioplasty without even asking for an initial deposit. Mr. Bhatti had gone through angioplasty to widen the obstructed artery. He was discharged after he was kept for observation for two days. He is currently recovering, thanks to the doctors’ prompt intervention. Regular assessments, such as checking the pulse and blood pressure, have been recommended to him. Furthermore, the doctors have advised him to abstain from alcohol and smoking, as well as to follow a healthy diet. The patient has been advised to engage in physical activity. The family has also been requested to provide him with all necessary psychological support.

“I never had any problem related to my heart but I am highly fortunate that I came to Aakash Healthcare. I am thankful to the doctors for their expert and prompt action that helped to save my life. Doctors of Aakash Healthcare are no less than God to me and my family,” Bhatti said.

Tobacco cessation, salt reduction in the diet, increased fruit and vegetable consumption, regular physical activity, and avoiding alcohol have all been demonstrated to lessen the risk of cardiovascular disease. It is also advised that people go for regular heart checkups to prevent heart attacks. Furthermore, drug treatment for hypertension, diabetes and high blood lipids is required to lower cardiovascular risk and prevent heart attacks and strokes in persons with these diseases.
