US and France join UAE in the investigation of sabotage of commercial ships. The US and France are assisting the UAE in its investigations into the sabotage attack on four commercial cargo ships in the Sea of Oman, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr Anwar Gargash said on Wednesday.
He said the investigations will be concluded in a few days with the help of the partners.
Dr Gargash said though Iran’s behaviour has been in the centre of regional issues, however, UAE will avoid making false judgement and accusations at this stage.
Emirates News Agency reported that the UAE State Foreign Affairs Minister also said that it is “essential” for Iran to address its regional behaviours and actions, and the concerns surrounding its long-term nuclear programme. ” He said that current developments represent a “formidable challenge” in a bid to “steer the ship away from the current brittle situation.”
On 12th of May UAE had said that four commercial ships were subjected to sabotage operations near its territorial waters in the Gulf of Oman, east of Fujairah.
A Statement by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said that the concerned authorities have taken all necessary measures, and are investigating the incident in cooperation with local and international bodies.
The statement said that the carrying out “acts of sabotage on commercial and civilian vessels and threatening the safety and lives of those on board is a serious development”.
It called on the international community to assume its responsibilities to prevent such actions by parties attempting to undermine maritime traffic safety and security.
